With a 26 game season that brought some exciting wins and horrific defeats, the Pioneer's have continued to play their hearts out.After the magnificent win on February 22nd against the Manhattanville Valients of 5-1, the UC Pioneer's have secured their second consecutive top seed for the ECAC West Division III Men's Ice Hockey.Senior Forward Trevor Hertz leads the team with 22 points for this season. Lacking only 1 point from becoming the third player in Pioneer's program-history to reach 100 career goals. Hertz has also been named the ECAC Conference Play of the Year. Hertz and Freshman Luc Boby are currently tied for 20th with their three game-winning goals for the season. On Monday, February 10th, Boby had been named the College's Player of the Week as well as ECAC Men's West Conference Rookie of the Week, from netting 3 goals, including 2 game winners, for the Pioneer's that weekend. Seniors Ridge Garbutt and Jon Gaffney are tied for second place with 20 points each.Senior Goalie Nick Therrien, having 44 career victories, lacking only 3 from reaching the Pioneer's record, set in 2008 by Adam Dekker. Therrien is currently tied for 12th nationally with his winning percentage and 18th in goals against average with 2.11 and 24th with save average of .923. Therrien and classmate Hertz have both been selected to the All-Conference First Team. While Seniors Gaffney and Mike Slowikowski were named Honorable mentioned. Jumping gears a bit, Women's Pioneer Hockey is also making the playoffs this season. Their 12th year of the 13 year program' with a record of 5-7 in playoff history.Senior Goalie Jennifer Hamel is ranked 2nd in program history with 34 wins. Showing a .904 save percentage and a 2.53 goals against average. Senior Megan Myers is ranked second for her 139 career goals in her 102 games played. She also leads the team in goals for the year with 18. Both teams will be playing their playoff games on Sunday, March 2nd at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. The Women's team will be hosting Potsdam at 12:00 noon with the Men's game will be at 4:00 pm, who's opponent has not yet been determined.
