That forgettable skid, however, would not grow to three. Popping three players into double figures and leading from start to finish Josh Trumpy (19), Dom Antonelli (16) and Kyree Calli (12) Larry Kostelac Jr. s driven Shamrocks churned out a 55-46 victory over a plucky Hanover group in the District 3-AA title game Friday night at Hershey s Giant Center. Brandon Kuntz uncorked a terrific floor game for Kostelac s Shamrocks (12-12), grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out seven assists while scoring four points for a Trinity side that finally hoisted the school s 12th District 3 championship trophy after unsuccessful attempts each of the past two seasons.Trinity's Kyree Calli, who finished with 12 points, has an open look during the Shamrocks' 55-46 win over Hanover in the 3-AA final. (Sean Simmers, PennLive.com)Up next for Trinity will be a date with Loyalsock or Lewisburg next Saturday at a District 3 venue when the PIAA Class AA tournament opens. Nick Trish tossed in 16 points for Nate Myers Nighthawks (19-7), who will open state play against the District 2 runner-up either Holy Cross or Meyers. Hanover also picked up a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) from Jake Rhodes. PIVOTAL SEQUENCE Even though Calli s stickback with 16 seconds left in the third quarter handed Trinity its largest lead (43-31), Myers Nighthawks promptly kicked off an 8-0 run that bridged the break when Trish closed the third by hitting a pull-up trey. Two Trish freebies to open the third he had three looks and Trace Russ deep, deep 3-ball at the 7:15 mark suddenly had Hanover within four (43-39). While Trinity might have panicked back in December when it was dealing with an eight-game losing streak, Trumpy buried two freebies to restore some order and a six-point lead (45-39). Moments later, Trumpy s jam off an Austin Gilbertson entry pass had the Shamrocks much more comfortable at 47-39. Hanover kept scrapping, chopping Trinity s advantage back to five (50-45) on Kyle Krout s finish off a Brady Goodfellow dish. Antonelli, however, knocked down four of his six free-throw attempts in crunch time to make it 54-45.Trinity head coach Larry Kostelac Jr. shouts out instructions to his players during the Shamrocks' 55-46 win over Hanover in Friday night's District 3-AA title game. (Sean Simmers, PennLive.com)Since the last of Antonelli s looks at the line came with 47.4 seconds showing, Kostelac s Shamrocks were on the verge of halting their skid. And they did. REVIEWING THE NUMBERS Trinity connected on 40.9 percent (18-for-44) of its field-goal attempts. Kostelac s Shamrocks were 3-for-13 from beyond the arc with Calli knocking down a pair early and Antonelli adding one in the second half. Trinity was 16-for-24 (66.7 percent) from the line, but just 8-for-14 in the final quarter. The Shamrocks outrebounded Hanover 40-34. Trinity committed just six turnovers, but that was one more than Myers Nighthawks. ... Calli pulled down six rebounds to go with his 12 points. Trumpy and Kuntz blocked one shot apiece. Hanover targeted 36.5 percent (19-for-52) of its shots from the floor. The Nighthawks matched Trinity from deep, bagging three of their 13 looks. Hanover, however, canned just five of its 13 shots from the free-throw line. Limited to just five points, Dylan Krieger snared 10 rebounds and dished out four assists. Russ dropped three dimes.
